Terms of use.

Who you are dealing with

This site, vocalrange.co, is run by 53 North ("Fifty Three North"), a business based in Canada. "We" and "us" below mean 53 North; "you" means whoever is using the site. Using the site means you accept these terms. If you do not, the fix is to close the tab.

What the service is

A browser tool that listens through your microphone, works out the pitch you are singing, and hands back your vocal range, a voice type, a percentile and a share card. The measurement happens inside your browser tab. No recording is uploaded, kept or listened to by anyone here.

The free part stays free: your range, your voice type, your percentile, your singer match, the share card, and a handful of songs. There is a paid layer, described below, and it only ever appears after you already have your result.

There are no accounts

This version has no sign-up, no password and no profile. Your result lives in the link, not on a server — the share link carries the whole result in the part of the URL after the # sign, which is why the link works without us storing anything.

The flip side: anyone you hand that link to can see that result, and if you lose the link the result is gone. Save the card if you want to keep it.

Your Setlist: paying and stopping

Your Setlist is the optional subscription: the full song catalogue ranked against your range, the safe/crowd-pleaser/risky buckets, the best key for each song, and your range history. It costs $6.99 per month or $39 per year, in US dollars, and it renews automatically until you stop it.

Payments are taken by Stripe. Stripe holds your card details; we never see a card number. You can cancel any time from the Stripe customer portal, using the link on your receipt — cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep the setlist until the period you already paid for runs out.

We do not refund part-used months or years, except where the law where you live says we must — in which case it does, and we will not argue about it. Prices can change, but not in the middle of a period you have already paid for: a change applies from your next renewal, and you will be told before it happens.

What you agree not to do

Nothing surprising. Do not try to break, overload or reverse the service, do not scrape it or resell access to it, do not upload anyone else through it without them knowing, and do not use it to pretend a result is someone else's. Do not use the site if you are under 13.

We can cut off access to anyone doing those things. Given there are no accounts, that mostly means blocking traffic rather than closing a door.

Who owns what

The site, its code, its copy, the design, the song data and the card layout belong to 53 North. You may not copy them wholesale into a competing product.

Your result is yours. The share card is yours: post it, print it, put it on a poster. You do not need to ask, and we claim nothing over the pictures of your own voice.

What we do not promise

The service is provided as-is and as-available. We do not promise it will be up, bug-free, or right about you. Pitch measurement is exact; the categories built on top of it are conventions, and a voice type read off two notes is a starting point for a conversation with a teacher, not a verdict.

Nothing here is medical, health or professional singing advice. If singing hurts, stop and see a doctor or a voice teacher — a note that hurts is not part of your range.

If something goes wrong

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses — a missed audition, a lost gig, a bruised ego. Where we are liable, the most we owe you is what you actually paid us in the twelve months before the problem, and for a free user that is nothing.

Some places do not allow limits like that. If yours does not, the limit is whatever that law allows instead.

Changes to these terms

We can update these terms. The date at the foot of the page changes when we do, and a material change to the paid layer is announced before it takes effect. Carrying on using the site after a change means you accept the new version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer somewhere with stronger local protections, you keep them.
